World Potato Congress 2026 Kenya
Kenya will host the 13th World Potato Congress from October 26 to 30, 2026, at Sawela Lodges in Naivasha. The event is organized by World Potato Congress Inc. with support from local and global partners. It will bring together farmers, researchers, companies and policymakers from over 60 countries. This is the first time the event will take place in Sub-Saharan Africa. The congress highlights the growing role of potatoes in food supply, jobs and trade, especially across Africa.
A Historic First for Africa
This event marks a key moment for the region. Kenya was first selected earlier but needed more time to prepare. After reviewing progress, the organizers confirmed the country as host again.
Kenya has made steady progress in potato farming through policy changes, better seeds and farmer support. Potatoes are now one of the country’s main food crops. The congress will help show this progress to the global community.
Focus on Growth and Collaboration
The congress will cover topics such as farming methods, seed systems, pest control, trade and food supply. There will be talks, panel sessions and field visits to farms and processing units.
Over 1,000 delegates are expected to attend. The event will also include workshops, business meetings and tours after the main sessions. It gives a chance for people to share ideas and form new partnerships.
Strong Support from Key Groups
The event is backed by groups such as the National Potato Council of Kenya, Agriculture and Food Authority, FreshCrop Ltd., and the International Potato Center.
These groups work across farming, research and business. Their role is to support farmers, improve production and link markets. Their combined effort helps make the event possible.
