Odisha Dy CM Gives Seed Potatoes to Athagarh Farmers

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo met farmers in Athagarh on Sunday, where he gave certified seed potatoes under the state’s potato and vegetable scheme. The event was held at Jagamohanpur, Keutapada and Dhurushia to help farmers prepare for the Rabi 2025 season.
Why the Programme Was Held
The seed distribution plan aims to help farmers get good planting material so they can raise better crops during Rabi. The state wants to raise potato output, cut down on outside supply, and steady the supply chain for local markets.
Before the event started, guests and farmers listened to the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio talk by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speeches and Messages to Farmers
During his talk, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government is working to support farmers through different schemes. He also spoke about the need to increase potato yield inside the state.
Director of Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman said good seeds are important for better output and for the well-being of farmers. Athagarh MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain asked farmers to use better seed types and simple improved farming steps so they can raise their crop output.
Niti Ranjan Sen, MD of OSSC, said the corporation is working to give seeds to farmers on time across Odisha. So far, 1,40,000 quintals of seed potato have been sent out, and 91,633 quintals have reached farmers in different districts.

Plans for the District
In Cuttack district, officials plan to grow potatoes on 800 hectares of land during Rabi. Out of this, 270 hectares will be in the Athagarh area. After the speeches, farmers received the certified seeds, and a small farm demo was held to show basic planting steps.

The event saw the presence of Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, Joint Director of Horticulture Dr. Prafulla Kumar Bhanja, Deputy Director Subrat Kumar Chand, and other field officers.
The seed distribution event gave farmers a clear start for the Rabi season. With timely seeds and simple guidance, officials expect better potato output in the months ahead.
